It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here what with Step-mother Martha Stewart’s five miniature trees themed to each room, two themed full-sized trees, mantel garlands, Christmas flowers, window decals, and three Christmas villages. The Christmas spirit is definitely in full swing at this house.
Yesterday we took a break from all the decorating and cleaning to join-up with family for an early Christmas celebration.
It was great getting to see this side of my family again. Since I’m hardly ever in the States and tend to stick to warmer climates, I never get to see them. Heck I even met new members this year.
Family was the main highlight of the afternoon, but the dinner was certainly notable. Aunt Carol outdid herself preparing chicken cordon blue for everyone. We all chipped in to round out the meals with delicious sides and appetisers. I kinda stuffed myself on chocolate covered pretzels and candy canes, but I found room once the main dishes made their debut.
I thought I had absolutely no room left after dinner, but dessert was even more epic. We had over six different pies, two jello salads, an ice cream cake, homemade candies/cookies, and ice-cream. I was in sugary heaven. The pumpkin pie had my name all over it. Dad devoured the divinity so much that we eventually had to cut him off.
The day ended with a long drive home. We all had to get up early for dad’s doctor appointments today. Karen took some pity on me so I wouldn’t have to sit around the VA hospital all day and my fake nails wouldn’t crumble off my fingers by the time I flew home. I got to spend the morning at the mall. I got my nails done and did some Christmas shopping. Karen will be glad she let me get the shopping done.
Coming home tonight this lovely site was waiting to great us at the gate.
I can never get used to the beauty of a white Christmas over an open plain. I love this land. It feels like a true Christmas surrounded by white powder, decorations, good food, and most especially family. I couldn’t ask for any better right now.
I hope all of you are having a great Christmas too!
So tell me,
How are you getting ready for Christmas?
White Christmas or no?
